@examples of zAnac words

From the verb pac पच् + /laT /ta → **pacate पचते "cooks for themself", replacing /laT with /zatR, we get —

pac पच् + /zAnac m + /su
→ pac पच् + /zap + /zAnac + /su
→ pacam- पचम् + Ana आन with muk मुक् by Anemuk
→ !**pacamAnaH पचमानः "who is / was cooking for himself"

We saw in page laTazzatRz... that sometimes we can turn the verb pacati पचति "(he) cooks" ← pac पच् + /laT into the nounbase pacat- पचत् "(he) cooks" ← pac पच् + /zatR. We can do that with /parasmaipada roots only, because /zatR is a parasmaipada affix.

With verbs like pacate पचते "cooks his own food", which has an /Atmanepada ending, /ta, we replace it with /zAnac. So we get pac पच् + /zAnac → pacamAna- पचमानॱ "cooks his own food". This can be used in sentences like —

pacamAnaM rAjAnam pazyAmi पचमानं राजानं पश्यामि "I see king who cooks his own food".

Here pacamAna- पचमानॱ copies /sup and gender from its doer word.

The same operation can be applied to a verb like pacyante पच्यन्ते "they are being cooked". This verb is made with pac पच् + /yak + /laT and linksto its object, not its doer like the earlier examples. Replacing /laT with /zAnac we get pac पच् + /yak + /zAnac → pacyamAna- पच्यमानॱ, same meaning, "it is being cooked". This base must of course link to its object, that is, to whatever is being cooked:

kukkuTIH pazyAmi कुक्कुटीः पश्यामि "I see hens"
kukkuTyaH pacyante कुक्कुट्यः पच्यन्ते "hens are being cooked"
pacyamAnAH kukkuTIH pazyAmi पच्यमानाः कुक्कुटीः पश्यामि "I see hens being cooked".

Here the base pacyamAna- पच्यमानॱ linksto its object **kukkuTIs कुक्कुटीस् which is f and has /zas, so it needs a feminine ending and a /zas too —

pacyamAna- पच्यमानॱ + /Ap + /zas → **pacyamAnAs' पच्यमानास्ऽ

/zAnac words always take /Ap.
