deriv LSK ETT STT aSTA ALPH OLDHOMEPAGE NEWHOMEPAGE
The flat hard liG endings are —
**yAt यात् **yAtAm याताम् **yus युस्
**yAs यास् **yAtam यातम् **yAta यात
**yAm याम् **yAva याव **yAma याम
How are these formed? Starting with the basic endings tiptasjhisipth..., first they get the same changes as the flat laG, making /t''', /tAm''', etc... But not /jhi, which becomes /jus by jherjus. Then yA या is added in front (by yAsuTparasm... and liGassalop...). This yA या loses its A आ before jus जुस् by usyapadAntAt —
yA या + /t''' → **yAt यात् "he / she would"
yA या + /tAm''' → !**yAtAm याताम् "both would"
yA या + /jhi → **yus युस् "they would"
yA या + /s''' → **yAs यास् "you' would"
yA या + /tam''' → !**yAtam यातम् "you'' would"
yA या + /ta''' → !**yAta यात "you''' would"
yA या + /am''' → !**yAm याम् "I would"
yA या + /va''' → !**yAva याव "we2 would"
yA या + /ma''' → !**yAma याम "we3 would"
This works slightly different when the base ends in a अ. The a अ together with the yA या makes ey एय्. Because of lopovyorvali, the y य् only stays before /jus /am''' —
a अ + yA या + /t''' → ey एय् + /t''' → et एत् "he / she would"
a अ + yA या + /tAm''' → ey एय् + /tAm''' → etAm एताम् "they2 would"
a अ + yA या + /jhi → ey एय् + /jhi → ey एय् + /jus → eyus एयुस् "they3 would"
a अ + yA या + /s''' → ey एय् + /s''' → es एस् "you' would"
a अ + yA या + /tam''' → ey एय् + /tam''' → etam एतम् "you'' would"
a अ + yA या + /ta''' → ey एय् + /ta''' → eta एत "you''' would"
a अ + yA या + /am''' → ey एय् + /am''' → eyam एयम् "I would"
a अ + yA या + /va''' → ey एय् + /va''' → eva एव "we2 would"
a अ + yA या + /ma''' → ey एय् + /ma''' → ema एम "we3 would"
The sUtra that explains this change is atoyeyaH. It just says that, after a अ, the yA या of yAsuTparasm... is replaced with iy इय्. Then AdguNaH will change the a अ + i इ into e ए.
