(Replace /jhi with /jus) after /sic, an /abhyasta, or /vid.
After an /abhyasta or /vid this rule applies to the /laG. It is an exception to adabhyastAt , which would have made /ati''', then at अत् by <9 itazca. Examples with /laG /jhi after an /abhyasta —
dA दा + /laG /jhi
→ **adadA- अददाॱ + /jhi
→ adadA अददा + /jus by this rule
→ adad अदद् + us उस् by znAbhyastayor...
→ !**adadus अददुस् "they gave"
dhA धा + /laG /jhi → !**adadhus अदधुस् "they held", same steps
bhI भी + /laG /jhi → **abibhayus अबिभयुस् "they feared"
hu हु + /laG /jhi → **ajuhavus अजुहवुस् "they sacrificed", with /guNa from jusica.
/jAgR → !**ajAgarus अजागरुस् "they awoke"
After /sic this rule obviously applies to the /luG only. Examples with /luG /jhi after /sic —
kR- कृॱ + /luG /jhi
→ kR कृ + /sic + /jhi
→ akR अकृ + /sic + /jhi by luGlaGlRGkSvaD...
→ akR- अकृॱ + s स् + /jus by this rule
→ akArS- अकार्ष् + /jus with /vRddhi by sicivRddhiHp... and uraNraparaH, and /Satvam
→ !**akArSus अकार्षुस् "they made"
hR- हृॱ + /luG /jhi → !**ahArSus अहार्षुस् "they carried"
Only example with /laG /jhi after /vid —
vid विद् + /laG /jhi → !**avidus अविदुस् "they knew"
Why are the /laT and the /liT unaffected?
This rule inherits "before Git tenses" from <10 nityaGGitaH.
But /lRG too is /Git. Then, why is the /lRG unaffected?
Because this rule is an exception to adabhyastAt. As the /lRG verbbase ends in /sya, which ends in a अ, jhontaH makes /ant''' —
hu हु + /lRG /jhi → **ahoSyan अहोष्यन् "they would have sacrificed"
with no adabhyastAt.
And /liG is /Git too. What happens in the /liG?
In the /liG this rule is overriden by < jherjus, which turns /liG /jhi into **yus युस् after all roots, not just after an /abhyasta. So we say —
/vid + hard liG /jhi
→ vid विद् + **yus युस्
→ !**vidyus विद्युस् "they'd know".
